Upham Farm Ponds - The Fishery
The six ponds are sited in a gently sloping valley surrounded by farmland and offer a good choice of fishing for all types of angler. Pond 1 contains common and mirror carp to 14 lbs, and a few grass carp to 7 lbs. It is not heavily stocked and is ideal for the experienced angler who likes a challenge. Pond 2 is well stocked with carp and tench, mostly under 3lbs, although there are a few larger carp to around 10 lbs. This is a very good sporting or beginners pond. Catches over 150 lbs are not uncommon in the summer months. Pond 3 contains carp to 13 lbs and tench to 4 lbs and is moderately stocked. Pond 4 is where to go if you want to catch the big ones ! Our best common - 26 lbs 0 oz lives here along with other twenties and numerous doubles. The tench go to 7 lbs. We try not to have much under 5 lbs in this pond - specimen hunters, this is the one for you. Pond 5 is a good mixed pond, quite deep - 10 feet in places, and contains our best tench weighing in at 8 lbs 8 oz. Carp go up to around 15 lbs.
Pond 6 is well stocked with many smaller carp and tench, mostly under 2lbs, with the odd big one to about 11 lbs. It is an ideal sporting or beginners pond. The fishery was established in the early 1970s when the spring fed Pond 1 was cleared and Ponds 2,3 and 4 were constructed. All the ponds were stocked with carp of varying sizes and Upham Farm has since enjoyed a national reputation among carp anglers, providing tremendous sport. Ponds 5 and 6 were opened in the 1980s and tench were introduced at that time. In recent years the tench population has grown in size and number, and we can now boast some of the best tench fishing around. Larger carp were introduced and together with a few other odds and ends you can look forward to a superb days fishing.
